Vlachonasiou Helen

Helen Vlachonasiou graduated in 1995 from the Department of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She pursued postgraduate studies at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, University of London (1996), and was awarded her PhD from the Department of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2012, with a thesis entitled “Techniques of spatial representation and morphogenesis in the 20th century: the influence of digital design tools on architecture”.

Between 1998 and 2008 she taught courses in architectural design, drawing and building construction as a scientific associate at the former Department of Civil Engineering (TEI sector) of TEI of Central Macedonia. In 2016 she taught at the Department of Architecture (AUTH) in the subject area “Three-dimensional representations in architectural design” as an assistant professor (PD 407/80). She is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at IHU, having been elected as a Professor of Applications in 2008.

She has taught and supervised dissertations in the MSc programme “Interventions in Existing Buildings and Urban Complexes: Strengthening, Reuse and Spatial Regeneration” of the Department of Civil Engineering at IHU. She is the Erasmus+ coordinator for the Department of Civil Engineering at IHU.

Her research interests and teaching focus on architectural design and spatial representation techniques, as well as building construction technologies. She has presented at conferences, published in scientific journals and conference proceedings, and participated in scientific and academic committees. She serves as a reviewer for scientific journals and is a member of the Structural Engineering and Architecture Laboratory (SEAL) of the Department of Civil Engineering at IHU.
