Accreditation
In October 2022, the Department and its undergraduate programme (UGP) were evaluated by an independent External Evaluation and Accreditation Committee of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE), with respect to compliance with the Quality Standard for the Accreditation of New Undergraduate Programmes and the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).
The External Evaluation and Accreditation Committee consisted of:
- Professor Nikiforos Stamatiadis (Chair), University of Kentucky, USA
- Professor Theodore Stathopoulos, Concordia University, Canada
- Professor Emeritus George Haritos, The University of Akron, USA
- Mr. Eleftherios Avramidis, Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE)
- Ms. Georgia Tsaftaridou, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece
The Committee assessed the compliance of the Department and its UGP with the following principles:
- Principle 1: Strategic Planning, Feasibility and Sustainability of the Academic Unit
- Principle 2: Quality Assurance Policy of the Institution and the Academic Unit
- Principle 3: Design, Approval and Monitoring of the Quality of the New Undergraduate Programmes
- Principle 4: Student-centred Approach in Learning, Teaching and Assessment of Students
- Principle 5: Student Admission, Progression, Recognition of Academic Qualifications and Award of Degrees and Certificates of Competence of the New Study Programmes
- Principle 6: Ensuring the Competence and High Quality of the Teaching Staff of the New Undergraduate Study Programmes
- Principle 7: Learning Resources and Student Support of the New Undergraduate Programmes
- Principle 8: Collection, Analysis and Use of Information for the Organisation and Operation of New Undergraduate Programmes
- Principle 9: Public Information Concerning the New Undergraduate Programmes
- Principle 10: Periodic Internal Review of the New Study Programmes
- Principle 11: Regular External Evaluation and Accreditation of the New Undergraduate Programmes
- Principle 12: Monitoring the Transition from Previous Undergraduate Study Programmes to the New Ones
The Committee concluded the following regarding the Department’s UGP:
- The Principles where full compliance has been achieved are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12.
- The Principles where substantial compliance has been achieved are: 9.
and as its overall assessment determined that the Department’s UGP is in FULL compliance with the above principles.
The Evaluation and Accreditation Council of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE), at its 31st session on 24 July 2023, taking into account the above report of the External Evaluation and Accreditation Committee, decided to accredit the Department’s undergraduate programme with a finding of FULL compliance.
