Panagopoulos George

Georgios Panagopoulos holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2001) and a Master’s degree in Seismic Design of Engineering Structures (2002), and is a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His academic career began in 2003 at the Department of Civil Structural Engineering of TEI Serres, and since 2010 he has been serving as a permanent faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at IHU.

He has taught courses including Reinforced Concrete I, II & III, Repair and Strengthening of Existing Buildings, and Matrix Structural Analysis, and has also contributed to teaching in the Department’s MSc programme “Interventions in Existing Buildings and Urban Complexes: Strengthening, Reuse and Spatial Regeneration”. His research interests focus on the seismic vulnerability assessment of existing structures, estimation of expected losses in the building stock and seismic risk management, and inelastic static and dynamic structural analyses.

He has participated in more than 15 national and European research projects, serving as Principal Investigator in one of them. His current research activity centres on the rapid seismic risk assessment of buildings and infrastructure, including European-funded projects such as REDACt (BSB, 2020–2023), EReS (UCPM, 2023–2025) and REDA_NEXt (Interreg VI-B NEXT BSB Programme), as well as a seismic risk assessment project for the Region of Attica (2021–2024). He is the author or co-author of more than 50 scientific publications in journals and conference proceedings, and serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals.
