Tsochatzidis Nikolaos

Dr. Nikolaos A. Tsochatzidis is currently Senior Manager of the Northern Greece Operation and Maintenance Centre at the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA) S.A. He has 35 years of engineering experience, of which 28 years have been spent in the operation and maintenance of natural gas transmission and metering systems.

He has worked on issues relating to energy market liberalisation, representation in natural gas purchase contracts, energy efficiency, environmental protection and renewable energy sources, among others. He has been a Scientific Associate and Academic Fellow at the International Hellenic University (formerly TEI of Central Macedonia) in Serres for 27 years. He has served as a researcher at the Research Institute of Chemical Process Engineering in Thessaloniki and at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Génie Chimique in Toulouse, France.

He holds a PhD (1994) and a Diploma in Chemical Engineering (1989) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as a Master of Business Administration (2009) from the University of Liverpool and a Diploma in Management (2004) from the Chartered Management Institute, UK. He has authored or co-authored 43 papers in international scientific journals and conference proceedings, as well as 1 patent. He serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals, has attended numerous seminars and conferences in Greece and abroad, and has taught at engineering seminars.

He is a member of technical committees of the European organisations European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSOG), Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) and Hydrogen Europe. He represents DESFA S.A. in the United Nations OGMP 2.0 international initiative for the measurement, reporting and reduction of methane emissions. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and of the Energy Institute of South-Eastern Europe, a former member of the Permanent Energy Committee of TEE / Central Macedonia Branch, and a member of other professional and scientific associations.

He has served as an elected member of the Supervisory Board and the Service Council of DESFA S.A., as well as of the Board of Directors of the DESFA S.A. Employees’ Association.
