Koliopoulos Panagiotis

Panagiotis Koliopoulos holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (1983, Democritus University of Thrace) and a PhD in stochastic dynamic analysis of structures (1987, Department of Civil Engineering, University College London).

He served as a postdoctoral researcher at UCL (1989–1993), funded by the British Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC). His academic career in Greece began in 1995 as a adjunct lecturer and continued from 1998 as a permanent faculty member at the four-year Department of Civil Structural Engineering of TEI Serres, which was restructured in 2013 into the Department of Civil Engineering, and in 2019 into the five-year Department of Civil Engineering of IHU. He has taught courses including Statics I, Statics II, Matrix Structural Analysis, Structural Dynamics I and Structural Dynamics II, among others.

He has served as a Researcher at the Institute of Engineering Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (ITSAK, 1995–1998), contributing to seismicity and seismic hazard studies for major projects — including the regional general hospitals of Katerini and Serres and the earthfill dams of Ilarion and Gratini — as well as research programmes on the influence of the energy content of strong ground motion on the seismic design of structures.

He has also collaborated with the Hellenic Open University on the development and writing of teaching materials (1998–1999) for the MSc programme “Earthquake Engineering and Seismic Resistant Structures”, and as teaching staff (2004–2014) with contracted responsibilities for independent teaching and supervision of MSc dissertations. He is the author or co-author of 4 books and more than 40 scientific publications.
