Galanis Athanasios

Athanasios Galanis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the International Hellenic University (Government Gazette 555/vol.Γ’/19-02-2025). He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the University of Thessaly (2006), a Master’s degree in “Design, Organisation and Management of Transport Systems” (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 2007), and a PhD from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly (2011), with a thesis entitled “Contribution to the development of a methodology for the assessment and evaluation of road safety and pedestrian mobility in the urban environment”.

At the Department of Civil Engineering of IHU he has taught courses including Road Engineering I, Road Engineering II, Special Topics in Road Engineering, and Design and Operation of Railway Systems, among others. His research interests focus on road alignment and geometric design, road safety and sustainable mobility.

He has participated in more than 15 research projects and has served as Principal Investigator in three of them. He is co-author of more than 20 papers in scientific journals and 80 papers in conference proceedings, and serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals.
