Stavroula Fotopoulou holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2006), a Master’s degree in Seismic Design of Engineering Structures (2007), and a PhD with distinction (2012), all from the Department of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Since 2024 she has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the International Hellenic University. Her research focuses on the vulnerability and risk assessment of structural and geotechnical works under multiple natural hazards, including seismic ground shaking, landslides, liquefaction and tsunamis. She has participated in 24 European and national research projects related to geotechnical earthquake engineering and the risk and resilience assessment of engineering works and infrastructure.
She has been awarded three scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) for postdoctoral research in Greece, and three grants from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Research Committee — one as a doctoral candidate and two as a postdoctoral researcher. She is Principal Investigator of the four-year European project MIRACA – Multi-Hazard Infrastructure Risk Assessment for Climate Adaptation, funded under Horizon Europe (2021–2027, call: HORIZON-MISS-2021-CLIMA-02).
She also recently led the project RESPORTS – Resilient, System-Wide Seismic Risk Assessment of Port Facilities: Application to Thessaloniki Port System, funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI). Her publication record includes 99 contributions to international scientific journals, conference proceedings and other scientific publications, with more than 2,300 citations.
