It includes the necessary material\r\nfor understanding: (a) the existence of geothermal energy sources as well as the calculation of the\r\nrequired technical infrastructure for their utilization and (b) the preliminary design of small and large\r\nhydroelectric projects.\r\nContent of lectures:\r\n\u2022 Energy. Basic principles of energy technologies. Energy mix. Renewable energy sources.\r\nElectricity balance. Temporal variation of consumptions. Energy production distinction.\r\n\u2022 Introduction to geothermal terminology. Heat sources inside the Earth. Types of geothermal\r\nfields and potential uses. Advantages and disadvantages.\r\n\u2022 Hydrothermal deterioration. Sampling of geothermal fluids. Stages of geothermal research.\r\n\u2022 Usage of geothermal energy. High and low enthalpy geothermal energy (production of fluids\r\nand energy, networks, impact). Technical problems in the exploitation of geothermal energy.\r\n\u2022 Financial \u2013 Technical elements of geothermal applications. Utilization of geothermal energy\r\nin Greece. Locating and evaluating geothermal energy sources.\r\n\u2022 Principles and fundamentals of hydroelectric technology. Hydraulic losses. Types of turbines\r\nand their mechanical characteristics.
