Excavation and\r\nsupport of underground structures and structural configuration based on the current code\r\nrequirements.\r\nContents of the theory lectures and application exercises:\r\n\u2022 Introduction to the subject of underground structures and their importance- Type of tunnels and\r\ndifferent construction methods\r\n\u2022 Geological and geotechnical parameters that are related to the underground structures\r\n\u2022 Physical characteristics, mechanical behavior and failure criteria of the intact rock and rockmass.\r\n\u2022 Mechanical behavior of rock and soil formations in relation to the construction of underground\r\nstructures- pertinent laboratory tests to define critical characteristics\r\n\u2022 Study and design of tunnels (distribution of stresses and deformations, excavation of tunnels,\r\n\u039d\u0391\u03a4\u039c and \u03a4\u0392\u039c methods, support of tunnel walls, waterproofing of tunnels, etc.).
