Short course description:\r\nThe course aims to provide students with the basic theoretical and background knowledge for the\r\ncore course 'YDR004 Water Supply and Sewerage Systems\u2019. It includes the necessary material for the\r\nunderstanding of the basic concepts of design and dimensioning of all individual water supply and\r\nsewerage network projects in urban and semi-urban areas through a theoretical and practical\r\n(application exercises) approach.\r\n2. Lectures\u2019 content:\r\no Introduction to urban hydraulic works, historical background. Basic principles and design\r\nparameters of water supply projects.\r\no Qualitative and quantitative water quality and quantity data. Sampling of springs, surface and\r\ngroundwater.\r\no Pumping stations and pressure mains. Calculation of water needs.\r\no Siting, sizing, and design of water reservoirs and yield\/reduction wells. Required elevation and\r\nsizing.\r\no Design, hydraulic analysis and sizing of distribution networks. Calculation of radial and axial\r\nnetworks.\r\no Computer models for solving water supply networks.\r\no Qualitative and quantitative data of municipal\/ industrial wastewater and stormwater.\r\no Hydraulics of sewers.\r\no Basic principles and design parameters of urban sewerage projects. Types of drainage and\r\nstormwater networks.\r\no Principles of sewage network design. Flow speed limits. Minimum gradients. Couplings. Local\r\nlosses. High and low velocity problems. Qualitative and technological aspects of sewerage pipelines.\r\no Estimation of stormwater flows.
