Content of theory lectures and practical exercises:\r\n\u2022 Influence of external loads on developing soil stresses.\r\n\u2022 Bearing capacity of soil in shallow foundations.\r\n\u2022 Settlements of granular and cohesive soils, soil consolidation.\r\n\u2022 Behavior of soils under drained and undrained conditions.\r\n\u2022 Earth pressures and retaining structures.\r\n\u2022 Introduction to the current regulatory framework (Eurocode 7).","goals":"The aim of the course is to help the student understand the basic principles of Soil Mechanics, to\r\nconsolidate knowledge regarding the behavior of the \u201csoil\u201d as a civil engineering material and to\r\ndevelop the ability to computationally address basic problems in classic applications of Soil\r\nMechanics.
